Happy Labor Day! I’m trying to make the best out of these last few weeks of warm weather…
Last week I had almost 2 pints of strawberries in my fridge that were about to go bad. Yes, I could have made a great dessert, but since I’m trying to stay away from desserts- and to be honest, I would probably be the only person in my house who would eat it- I decided to do something different…strawberry vodka!
First, I cut the tops off and cut the strawberries in quarters.
Then, I put the strawberries in a quart-size mason jar. I had a 750ml bottle of vodka that I used to fill the mason jar.
I left the mason jar closed for about a week. Every day or so, I shook the bottle. After a few days, the vodka took most of the color from the strawberries.
At the end of the week, I strained the strawberries out and poured the strawberry vodka back into the mason jar. So far, I’ve made:
- Strawberry lemonade – just add some of the vodka into fresh (or bought) lemonade
- Strawberry limeade – same as above, but with limeade
- Strawberry mojitos – using my mojito recipe, but substituting the rum with the vodka and adding a couple of slices of strawberries
- Strawberry vodka and tonic – because I love flavored vodkas and tonic!
Enjoy!
